Callin' all the monstas! Ah yes, this series of artwork has quite the story behind it...
So this all began back in 2012, before MU came out, and I think I was struck by this idea while reading the Monsters Inc Essential Guide. Monster High... Monsters University... what if I drew the MI/MU charries as MH characters! Despite I haven't purchased the dolls, I've always liked the clever way they came up with these second-generation teenage humanoid monsters, and honestly, for me, just humanizing the Monsters characters wasn't working, they needed to keep some of their monster-yness, and that's one of the things they do with the MH characters!. So I did a quick doodle back then of my idea of Mike and Sulley and I seriously couldn't wait until 2013 when I could draw them for real on DisneyCreate! And around this time last year I started taking reference from the MH website and bringing them to life!
So here's one of the last of the MI characters I did, Roz! She was one of the very first I MH-ified in my doodles, and honestly I think that doodle was better than this in some ways. I had a pretty basic idea of what she'd look like; I'd envisioned her as a really smart overachiever teen who's the student body president, so naturally I derived her sweater into a whole suit. I really did want to do her justice, especially after I read in the MI Essential Guide that she won a beauty pageant when she was younger XD Unfortunately, that gray hair and glasses can't help but make her look older. I debated on giving her a normalish hair color, but with monsters, who can tell what her old color is? I will likely redraw her in the future to continue improving and making her look more like a young humanoid Roz and less like a zombie teacher. Ah well, but practice is always important!
Roz belongs to Disney/Pixar, the Monster High style belongs to Mattel, but the drawing belongs to me.

Very nice! She looks like she could be a teacher in the Monster High world.
