Introducing Spectrum, My Night Fury OC

Finally got another one of my character reintroductions up! Yeeeshhh Night Furies y u be so hard to draw?? Anyway, get comfortable because this is a really, really long story...
OK, so pretty much as soon as HTTYD came out, fanart for it came on DisneyCreate in the barrelloads. And original Night Furies followed shortly after that! Obviously, since they're one of the best dragon species to ever exist! I didn't end up seeing HTTYD until 2012, and once I did, I absolutely knew I'd have to design my own little Fury! Now, on DC, the majority of these NFs were deco colors, which works since none of us know what other NFs look like (yet), so I had to think hard to come up with a completely original design in the midst of the many amazing OCs. I quickly decided on a purple dragon with blue eyes and named her Evenstar. But something was still missing... she was pretty simple in design and wouldn't, I felt, stand out in a crowd that easily. But one fateful day, an episode of Riders Of Berk would change everything for me...
After seeing HTTYD for the first time, I did want to start watching the show, but I had intended to start from the beginning. Eh well... that December day, I gave up and watched my first episode, When Lightning Strikes. It wasn't anything particular about the episode that inspired Spectrum's ultimate design, but just being reminded of why I love the movie in the first place made me rethink my NF's design. I started doodling her on Create and realized something... I'd picked my two go-to favorite colors for this dragon... but I love all the colors! So I started coloring her wings, back/tail spikes, her tail itself, her claws, and the ridged scales on her head in all the colors of the rainbow! And thus, Spectrum was born! And that would be the drawing you see on the right! I finished the drawing up within a couple hours, even with having to manually color her rainbow markings (thank goodness I can use gradients now!), but even after turning the computer off and going to bed, my imagination refused to stop working... and a backstory began to take place...
I started to come up with a backstory, imagining how, if I were a Berkian, I would've found Spectrum. I ended up figuring out a whole concept as to where me and my family would fit in, even down to my viking name (ScarsGill, after my Create username CARSGirl). The basic concept is that I found Spectrum as a baby in the forest, all alone. Because she wasn't used to humans, she didn't fear me, and instead, I started going out to the forest every day to feed her and play with her, in turn, becoming my secret dragon (alluded to in the pic on the left... boy I wish that drawing was in better quality so I could post it separately!). But since having seen HTTYD 2 and knowing that in that five-year gap, Toothless was still the only known Night Fury, I realized that this concept hit some problems in canonicity. So much for telling stories about me hanging out with Hiccup and the rest of the gang in the Riders/Defenders era! Since then, I've restructured the storyline to that I likely spent years keeping her a complete secret. Oooh intriguing! I haven't figured out her whole story, though I did come up with one other idea, and that was bringing back Evenstar. Evenstar became Spectrum's mother, who had been injured by an old viking trap and was absent for months before returning to Spectrum. And let's just say that Evenstar didn't trust me worth beans when she got back... more intrigue! So I won't go and spoil the whole story that I still hope to write... let's take a look at her bio!

Age: Unknown, but estimated around five months at finding. I still am not sure how dragons actually age...
Birthday: December 17th
Personality: Playful, inquisitive, affectionate, innocent curious, and a tad precocious.

Isn't she just the cutest?! Even with all of my so-so drawings of her! I didn't get to draw her much on Create, mostly due to the fact she was so detailed... that drawing of her and me on the right I started in September of last year and finished in March of this year (well that was also because of some serious bugs that even effected how it saved)! But now armed with Photoshop magic I think you'll be seeing a lot more of this munchkin, especially if I can get a little story written up about her And btw that background is still super awesome... I did the whole thing from scratch, trying to get a "Book of Dragons" feel. Anyway congrats you have finished reading this!
